The Most Important Event of Great Terroir WINES in 2017

The second Terroir Renaissance International Wine Symposium, China’s most influential event about wine terroir, will take place on 8 – 10 December 2017 in Shanghai, China. It will focus on the theme: “The relationship between terroir and man”, aiming to enhance the understanding of the concept and practices of terroir internationally.

“Terroir is the dream of mankind for thousands of years.” Said by Mr. Aubert de Villaine, Honorary President of the Association des Climats du Vignoble de Bourgogne, co-owner of the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, in his keynote speech in the first “Terroir Renaissance International Wine Culture Symposium” in 2015. His words touched countless Chinese wine lovers. Terroir, is the set of factors of natural environment and human including land, mountains, climate, human’s customs and habits. Wine is representative product of terroir. And terroir is the foundation of all great wines. To understand and to share the great culture of wine, it’s crucial to learn the concept and practice of terroir.

2017 symposium is divided into 4 main parts: a 9-hour International Terroir Seminar, 12 masterclasses, a grand fine wine tasting with more than 80 celebrated wineries and a prestige dinner to be attended by wine critics, owners of top wineries, celebrities and key opinion leaders of wine industry in China.

For wine lovers, the entire three-day events will be an unprecedented opportunity to learn the concept of terroir, to discover the secrets behind the greatest wines of the world. For professionals, the symposium will be unique chance to meet legendary wine growers and influential wine experts who will share decades of rich experience as well as understand how terroir reveals the true value of authentic wines.

Part 1: International Terroir Seminar

The 9-hour International Seminar on Terroir on Saturday 9th Dec 2017 is the most important part of the Terroir Renaissance International Wine Symposium. It’s constituted by 5 modules and 13 classes taught by 18 globally leading figures in wine world, including world-renowned wine experts and producers. The seminar will focus on the theme of the relationship between Terroir and human and interpret the meaning of Terroir – the core concept of the wine world.

Mr. Aubert de Villaine, Honorary President of the Association des Climats du Vignoble de Bourgogne, co-owner of the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, was keynote speaker of the first Terroir Renaissance International Wine Symposium in 2015. He will send his message about the spirit of wine growers through a special video during the seminar to support the symposium.

China’s top English and French translators will provide simultaneous interpretation during the whole seminar. An online live streaming in high definition and via multi-camera shooting would also be available for those who cannot attend it in presence. Audiences who watch the seminars via live streaming can also join the Q&A sessions.

Château Climens, Premier Grand Cru Classés of Sauternes and Barsac in  1855, has been widely recognized as the only competitor of Château d’Yquem since the 19th century. It has been owned and managed by the Lurton family since the 1970s, and has maintained high quality and prestige position ever after. The winery produces the most expensive noble wine of Barsac and is considered to be one of the best sweet wines of the world. Among the Grands Crus Classés who produce sweet wine in Bordeaux, Château Climens is the only one being certified biodynamic.

Bérénice Lurton, the owner of Château Climens, will present a vertical tasting masterclass. The oldest wine can be traced back to 1998. There will also be the outstanding vintage 2005 and 2009 which has got high scores from wine critics. It will be a great chance to explore the charm of aged sweet wines and Barsac’s terroir.
